Amos Slade

Amos Slade the Hunter.

Amos Slade is a forest hunter, who is the main antagonist in Winnie the Pooh Meets The Fox and the Hound. In the film, he and his partners, Brer Fox and Brer Bear, hunt animals for their furs. Just down the road, Amos Slade, Brer Bear, and Brer Fox return home with a surprise for his wolfhound hunting dog, Chief. The surprise turns out to be a hound dog puppy, whom Amos names “Copper.” Chief initially doesn’t like Copper, but the young pup soon wins him over. Tod, Pooh, and the others accidentally wake Chief up, and inadvertently upset Amos' chickens, making Amos believe Tod was trying to eat them. Amos tries to shoot Tod, Pooh, and the others run away. Tod chases after Widow, who is driving off with pails of milk. Amos, Brer Bear, and Brer Bear give chase in Amos' own car and shoots at the milk barrels in the back of Widow's car in an attempt to kill Tod, Pooh, and the others. Widow slams on her brakes and confronts Amos, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear. She forcibly takes Amos' gun from him and shoots his car’s radiator. Amos, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear angrily tell Widow the next time they catch Tod, Pooh, and the others on Amos property, they will kill and skin him. Amos, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear take Copper and Chief hunting and drive off to leave Tod and Copper to sadly look at each other as Copper leaves. Amos, Brer Fox, Brer Bear, and Chief teach Copper how to hunt. As Copper is at first too energetic and playful, he soon grows up into a skilled hunting dog. On the final leg of the trip, Copper's senses lead him to prey that Chief could not smell. Copper successfully hunts down some game to Amos, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear's delight and Chief's jealousy. As they head home, Copper takes the front seat, having earned his right. When Amos, Copper, and Chief soon return home, Tod is adamant that he can resume his friendship with Copper. Tod goes to visit Copper that night after Amos and Chief fall asleep, because Brer Rabbit, Roo, Kanga, Tennessee Tuxedo, Chumley Walrus, Shag, Blitz, Exile, Hunter, Muzzle, Colleen, Plucky Duck, Hamton J. Pig, Shirley the Loon, and Fifi Le Fume might go with him as well in the remake while Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, Buster Bunny, and Babs Bunny stay behind. Copper is glad to see Tod but tells him he shouldn’t be hanging around. Tod asks if they’re still friends, but Copper tells him those days are over, leaving Tod deeply saddened. Copper tells Tod he should leave before Chief wakes up. Once more, Chief awakens and breaks free of his dog house, chasing Tod away from the farm and alerting Amos, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear. Amos, Brer Fox, Brer Bear, and Copper follow, as do Tweed, Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, Buster Bunny, and Babs Bunny. Tod hides under a pile of wood, and is cornered by Copper, who lets Tod go while diverting Amos and Brer Fox into the wrong direction, and as Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, Buster, and Babs find Tod, Brer Rabbit, Roo, Kanga, Tennessee Tuxedo, Chumley Walrus, Shag, Blitz, Exile, Hunter, Muzzle, Colleen, Plucky Duck, Hamton J. Pig, Shirley the Loon, and Fifi Le Fume, and go with them, Chief and Brer Bear catch Tod, Pooh, and the others who run onto a railroad track, and continue chasing them, but are knocked over the railroad by an oncoming train, which speeds round the corner, and sends them into the riverbed below, injuring Chief's leg, and giving Brer Bear a lump on his head. Copper witnesses this and, enraged, yells to Tod that he will get him for this. Tod, Widow, Pooh, and the others are reunited, and return home, but Amos and Brer Fox bang on Widow's door and attempt to force their way into her home to kill Tod while Brer Bear and Chief are inside. Widow manages to shove him away, but Amos and Brer Fox say that Widow can't keep him locked up forever, because he almost killed Chief and Brer Bear. When Widow drops Tod off at the game preserve, Pooh and the others go in and finally find him and help him find Vixey. Meanwhile, Amos, Brer Fox, Brer Bear, who has recovered from his injury, and Copper discuss how they are going to catch Tod with a trap. Chief rests up, though he admits to himself that his injury has its perks as it means he is pampered. Amos, Brer Fox, Brer Bear, and Copper trespass into the reserve in an attempt to hunt down Tod. They set down several traps while Copper sniffs out Tod’s path. The four then hide and plan to wait for Tod to come their way. The next morning, Tod, Vixey, Pooh, and the others wake up, and as Tod takes in the beautiful morning, he tells her he has never been happier. They walk through the forest, but when they reach the place where Amos, Copper, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear are hiding, Vixey says they should avoid it because it's “too quiet.” Tod, Pooh, and the others press on and accidentally trigger some of Amos' traps. They aren't injured, but Amos immediately begins firing at him while Copper, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear run after them. While they are trying to track down Tod, Vixey, Pooh, and the others, the hunt is accidentally interupted when a large monstrous bear appears as they inadvertentaly antagonise him. Amos gets off only a single shot, trips, and falls into one of his own leghold traps, and while he loses his shotgun, Brer Fox and Brer Bear bravely struggle to free him, so Copper tries to fight the huge angry enraged bear, but is nearly killed in a very vicious fight. Against Copper's better judgement, Tod, Pooh, and his friends intervene to save their friend, and continue to battle the much larger bear, and end up luring him onto a fallen trunk, which breaks and sends the animals all plummeting down the reserve's waterfall, and due to his weight, the giant savage bear is killed, because he is too heavy for the old fallen trunk, that is broken apart. At the end, Amos decides not to hunt Tod anymore. Brer Fox and Brer Bear share a simular thing, but know that it is assumed temporary.
