The Thief

The Thief was a secondary antagonist/unexpected protagonist in Winnie the Pooh Meets The Thief and the Cobbler, voiced by the late Jonathan Winters. As Tack describes him, he's "a man of few words, but many thoughts". Throughout the film, all of his dialogue is in his thoughts, never outwardly speaking a word. The Thief had a strong penchant for anything shiny and made of gold. Pooh and friends spotted him lurking around Baghdad and decided to follow him, which eventually lead to his and Tack's capture by ZigZag, the scheming Grand Vizer to King Nod. It is in fact he who is responsible for the heroes' quest, as he manages to steal the three magic golden balls that protect Baghdad from invasion, but he loses them, and they fall into ZigZag's possession. He later trails Tack, Princess YumYum, and Pooh and friends as they journey to seek the advice of The Witch. In the end, the Thief manages to find himself wandering around King One-Eye's war machine and gathers the golden balls again, but redeems himself (rather reluctantly) by giving them back to Baghdad. He later served time in prison, but upon his release, he became Chief of the Palace Guards. He is the main protagonist of the Miramax version and the secondary antagonist of the first two versions of the Thief and the Cobbler
